Frank Bird Linderman was an American author, ethnographer, and politician born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1869. At the age of sixteen, he moved to Montana, where he immersed himself in the culture and traditions of the Native American tribes, particularly the Blackfeet, Cree, and Salish peoples. Linderman's deep respect and understanding of Native American folklore and traditions are reflected in his literary work, which aimed to preserve the oral stories and myths of these tribes. Self-educated in many respects, Linderman worked various jobs, including as a trapper, trader, and promoter of his beloved Montana. He served in the Montana State Legislature and later as the Assistant Secretary of State of Montana. His contributions to literature are significant for their authentic portrayal of Native American folklore, capturing the essence and wisdom of these oral traditions. Through his writings, he provided a bridge between Native American cultures and a wider audience, ensuring that these valuable stories were not lost to time.
